Sal Paradise

Originally my plan for this blog/brand/website was for it to be predominantly a "travel" blog. However, it's evolving and this is a good thing, into more of a life/experience/adventure type blog.

I've spent the majority of my life so far travelling, and rambling on, and as of just recently started writing about it. And the reason I think this isn't like any other travel blog, is because at the moment, travelling is not my day job (yet). So, when I'm not on the move presently, all I really have is stories from when travelling in fact was my day job.

Years ago I read 'On The Road' by Jack Kerouac and although at the time knew nothing about Kerouac or that style of writing, I was obsessed. It was as if the words were written and directed at me, meant for only me to understand deeper than just words on a page. I've always talked about that sunset feeling, that suffocating pang of nostalgia hitting you in the chest like an electrical shock. It's a feeling of yearning and longing, but you can't quite put your finger on what "it" is exactly. It almost hurts, but Goddamn it hurts so good doesn't it?

I read this line:    "As we crossed the Colorado-Utah border I saw God in the sky in the form of huge gold sunburning clouds above the desert that seemed to point a finger at me and say, 'Pass here and go on, you're on the road to heaven.'

And that my friends, was all it took. I had toured for years with bands at that point yet that quote summed it up perfectly. Even though I had already seen and experienced so much so young I was ravenous for more.

So that's it, I have lots of adventures and travels coming up but in the meantime, I'm gonna get some of these ridiculous stories out. Eventually I'm going to start changing names, because they're going to get more and more incriminating and personal....stay tuned.
